Mentors Make the Difference

"Mentors Make A Difference"
The reason I wrote this post is simple.....I have AMAZING Mentors!
I am surrounded by a circle of men and women with who I can talk & complain to, and in whom I can trust. And it has been that way since I was a child.
My mom has always been an influential person in my life and I owe much of who I am today to her (she'll never take the credit but it's true). She has always given me a healthy dose of inspiration sprinkled with unbridled honesty & unconditional love. I have so many other mentors that if I started naming them one by one I would leave someone out . . . but they know who they are.
I believe it is so important to surround yourself with people who are where you want to be in life or people who motivate and challenge you to be better.
So to anyone who has ever given me a shoulder to cry on (literally & figuratively) or let me discuss my future plans or simply been there to challenge me and tell me that you believe in me, from my heart I say...THANK YOU!
thecultureshock.org was created to pass on the information that has been given to me by my mentors in hopes of paying it forward.
So, if you don't have a mentor....GET One!
And if you have a mentor or 2 or 5.....Celebrate Them!
Mentors are the key to a strong network.
Why do we need strong networks?
It's simple, having a strong network links you to many resources. The more resources, the more opportunities.
You may be thinking "How do you I build a network?" or "How do I find a mentor?"
Check out these simple tips that have always helped me:
1) Be open to meeting new people!
Some of the people with whom I am closest seem to have come out of nowhere or they are NOT who I would've thought would be a good fit for my life. But just by me being open to having small conversations with new people, I made great connections.
2) Stay in communication!
We're ALL busy, but we have to MAKE TIME to build on these relationships. So send a text or email, even pick up the phone and call just to make sure that you maintain both business and personal relationships.
3) Be a partner!
Having a mentor is great because a mentor is someone you can learn from and who pours into you...but don't forget to BRING SOMETHING to the table! For example, if you're younger than your mentor, show them something new with technology or if you're not in the same city as your mentee/mentor send a quick word of encouragement, a little goes a long way.
I hope this post inspires you to not only appreciate your mentors but also to give back to others by mentoring someone in return.
