Do What You Love...(and Profit from it!)

Briana Arlene Robinson, professionally known as B.Arlene is an overall art enthusiast and her love manifests itself through a variety of mediums. Currently, those include poetry and spoken word. She seeks to inspire thought and evoke emotion with her pieces, but above all, seeks to share her story with the world in hopes that it will inspire others to tell their tale.

College years are arguably the most significant years. As a young adult these are the years that usually determine what you are going to do for the rest of your life. A lot of attention is on choosing the "right" major or internship, but what about your hobbies?

College is also the best time to explore your interests. Most universities offer a variety of groups not based on skill level, so it's fairly easy to try new things.

For me, it was an opportunity to try spoken word. I love language and have always been fascinated by poetry, so my freshman year I joined a poetry group. During the week we would get together and have writing sessions, then on weekends we'd meet at a local café and perform in front of each other. I did not know then, that it was the beginning of my career.

While I was simply doing something for the joy of it, I was subconsciously learning what I was good at and perfecting it. Those skills came in handy, when I found myself needing a second job and unwilling to accept minimum wage.

Hobbies can be a great source for supplemental income. When you do what you love and are willing to invest time into becoming good at it, there will always be an opportunity to market yourself and your product.

Love and Light,

B.Arlene
